This mineral typically crystallizes in metamorphic rocks through contact metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration. It forms a triclinic crystal structure with three unequal axes intersecting at oblique angles, resulting in perfect cleavage in one direction and enabling it to be split into smooth, flat surfaces easily.
